Background

In order to improve the primary success rate of CTO, variety of techniques and devices have been contrived, and retrograde approaches including septal dilation technique invented in 2005 or CART technique enabled to treat conventionally impossible-to-handle CTO lesions with PCI, resulting in providing a dramatic improvement in the primary success rate, which used to be the weak point of CTO-PCI.

Also in recent years, various guidewires for the retrograde approach or “Corsair” catheter were invented and the retrograde approach became more familiar. However, there is a need to introduce how to enforce the retrograde approach securely and effectively because still now, not every CTO practitioners could operate the technique safely.

The purpose of this session is to promote the further improvement of retrograde approach against CTO-PCI, to establish this technique in the more secure and effective way, and to aim to improve the primary success rate in CTO-PCI by attempting appropriate education of the retrograde approach technique.
